Jnetics is launching a matched funding campaign ‘Give and Let Live’ on the 30th-31st January 2022
Jnetics’ mission is to prevent new cases of devastating, yet wholly preventable, Jewish genetic disorders from the Jewish community by providing education and accessible carrier screening to all young Jewish adults.
We focus on 47 genetic conditions that, though not exclusively Jewish, are of higher prevalence to people of Jewish ancestry.
Our programme screens Year 12 pupils in nine mainstream Jewish schools and we run Jnetics on Campus University Screening Week each year. We also fund the NHS to employ a genetic counsellor to run a clinic twice a month, for young people who would like to be screened as part of their family planning. Jnetics are entirely reliant on donations from the community to ensure that we can continue our vital work.
Like all charities, Jnetics has struggled during Covid. In 2022, as well as screening the 1,200-1,500 young adults that we usually screen in a year, we have a huge backlog of 800 school-age children who were unable to be screened in the last 18 months. As an organisation we have a responsibility to the community to ensure that these young adults are not overlooked, and are tested asap.
It has been an incredibly challenging 18 months for Jnetics. Like many charities, we have cancelled (for the second time) our annual dinner scheduled for Jan 2022. So instead of our fundraising dinner we are running a matched funding campaign to raise £500,000. We have secured a matching pot from some generous donors, which will be used to double any donations made during the campaign.
